Because I have anxiety brain and making lists of fun things is calming.
Chip and Dale:
So of course, Dale has been 95% done for ages now. I finally hemmed the top and put the zipper in last month, and finally finished the hat, too. So it’s wearable as is, but I had wanted to do something other accessories for it, and also get new shoes, so…
I bought a new belt on amazon yesterday – I’m going to try to make the front closure look like acorns, or an acorn in the middle or something. Need to see how the belt goes together before I can make solid plans; I’m pretty sure that bow is stationary and I can do whatever to it but want to double check first.
I also bought new shoes. These suede shoes (in the pic above when I put it on laat year) were just too dark. I got some red patent heels that should be cute and reviews said they were very comfortable for walking and standing. I had another pair picked out that was SO much cuter though but I KNEW they’d kill my feet. You could tell just by looking at them that they were cute, cheap, blister machines. So I went with the more sensible pair… but I may add a bow to them to make them look more like the blister machines.
I also kinda want to make a bag. I didn’t put pockets in my skirt so I’m going to need a place for my phone. Acorn bag would be cute, but so far haven’t felt inspired to try to make something.
And I’ve also decided to make an undergarment for it, but I’ll talk about that under the next segment (Bespin Leia).
And last thing… I decided I wanted a wig. While I think I could do the hairstyle I have in mind… I don’t think it would last in the Orlando humidity. Like I could sleep in rollers overnight, with setting spray, carefully style it and pin it the next morning, and by 9AM I’d look like a drowned rat. So I found a cut wig on etsy and bought it. One less thing to worry about.
Chase’s Chip is all done from my end. He’s been buying clothes for the rest of it – he got a shirt, shorts, and shoes.
The last thing we need to do for both of us is our ears. He 3d printed some ears last year that we need to paint, cover in fur, and figure out where they need to sit on our hats. I’m going to do my ears by magnets because I don’t want them permanently attached to my hat.
Bespin Leia/Han:
Of course my Dapper Bespin Leia has BEEN done, it’ll be 2 years old when I wear it at Disney this year. I may have to buy new hair pieces at the last minute before the trip but that’s really it (getting new hair colour the weekend before the trip. Hoping my brighter red extensions match but if not…)
But as I mentioned above, I’m building a new undergarment for both Dale and Bespin Leia. I’ve talked about it other posts – originally I was trying to build a bra that gave me the compression I prefer without having giant, prominent straps.
For Bespin leia previously, I used a little bra extension that allowed the band of the bra to be pulled down and not visible in the V-shaped back. It worked ok, but the only bra I had it worked on wasn’t a great bra. I felt very unsupported in it.
After messing around with bra ideas for a while, I gave up on that idea and decided to fall back to what I know – and I’m basically making a little… I don’t know what to call it. It’s not a corset, it’s not a bustier. I’m using my favourite bodice pattern, but it’s cut off at the waist, there’s no padding of course. I’ve been waiting on my new order of spiral steel boning to finish it, which of course has been lost at the post office for over a week now (finally updated today so fingers crossed). I’m hoping I got the sizing right that I can put a zipper in it and not a lace-up back, but we’ll see what it looks like when I get the boning in.
Chase’s Han outfit is coming together. It’s all stuff he bought; the only thing we may do is embroider the “blood stripes” on his socks.
Black Widow:
Black Widow is done. Nothing to see here.
I probably WILL be curling my own hair for this one. I’m wearing it our first night there and it’s not a park day. It should be ok.
Leia Disneybound:
My little Leia disneybound dress is coming together! Look so cute! This pic is from 2 night ago I think.
As of last night it’s like 90% done. I got the zipper in which was a PAIN. It’s a 22″ separating invisible zipper. It got lost for a week in the mail but now that it’s here I wish it wasn’t. It doesn’t work great, keeps snagging on stuff… but after I got it actually SEWN in last night and not just basted, it seems to be working better so I’m going to let it live.
I still need to finish the zipper (at the top, and I also want to partially undo one side and sew it back on because it looked a little funny last night) and press everything really good and try it on again. The lining and outer layer are doing a funny thing where it’ll look fine on me but I put it on the dressform and suddenly the outer layer is wanting to hang lower than the lining in places creating a “baggy” effect. Or vice versa. Like it just happens randomly and I think it’s just because something is stuck somewhere. So I’m hoping after a press and just making sure I have it on right it’s all ok. If it’s not, I’m just going to take some small stitches in the seams to hold them both in place.
Anyway – the shorts I bought for it came and are not great. I mean they’re ok. I’ll use them for costuming. But they’re so short and tight they look more like swimsuit bottoms which is not what I was going for. So I just ordered some new shorts today, fingers crossed.
Also got silver glitter shoelaces for my shoes.
The jacket is done except I need to remove the old bars from when I had a hook and bar closure at the waist.
So that just leaves the belt. I ordered some white vinyl yesterday so when that comes, I’ll get it cut and start assembling this. I have the 3d printed pieces Chase did for me last year, they need painted and attached. I’m going to cut the belt a bit thinner than the regular look of the Leia belt; I think it’ll look better with the outfit.
Padme Disneybound:
So this one I haven’t really had much to say about in a while, because I just needed to buy stuff to wear under my shawl thingie:
So after digging around online for forever, I ended up buying this top:
And yes, it’s white and not yellow like I wanted. I could NOT find a yellow halter top that looked the way I wanted. It was so frustrating! So I got this one in white and I’m hoping to dye it a very pale yellow. Fingers crossed.
I got these shorts. These were not my top pick and I don’t know how all that extra floof around the waist is going to look on me. But Chase thought they were cute so I’m trying them. They may get sent back, we’ll see.
And then I got these shoes. My first choice shoes ended up being “unavailable”. Amazon showed them available, showed my size in the colour I wanted as in stock, but when you actually clicked on it said “unavailable”. Weird. So I went with these. They’re not EXACTLY what I had in mind but my main points were #1 will they be comfortable to walk around disney in and #2, will I wear them in regular life? So I’m giving these a try. We’ll see.
Masks and Ears:
So as mentioned in previous blog posts, I did make new ears:
Dunno when I’ll wear these. Wednesday and Thursday I guess – the only days I don’t have a whole outfit planned!
And like I’ve also talked about, I’ve updated my mask pattern to make matching masks for everything, but… last week we found some masks that are clear but anti-fog. So we bought some of those to try out. If those are comfortable we’ll be wearing those, so you can actually see our faces with our outfits. I’m still going to make a few masks so we have plenty if we need to switch out. I’m planning to do masks that match our specific outfits, plus also one out of that knitorious toile and the stitch/grogu fabric I used for the ears above.
So that’s my update for today. Now back to the real world.
